Welcome, fellow humans (and others), to the world of FUN SCIENCE! Through a day of hands on activities and investigation, we are going to learn fun facts about science!

Most people say, “Cooking? Baking? Same thing!” Although they both involve using ingredients to make something edible and yummy, they have very different concepts. In cooking, it is easy to improvise if you mess up or forget an ingredient. However, baking requires a lot of precision. Using bread as an example, elements like humidity, yeast, temperature, liquid and sugar will vastly affect the look and taste of the finished product.

In the morning, learn about the science of baking, and watch yeast in action and how different ingredients mixed together can give the most delicious bread.

We then dip into a molecular gastronomy where we investigate the physical and chemical transformations of ingredients that occur in cooking. After making the panna cotta, we will make our own molecular fruit caviar that will be used as fruit toppings on the panna cotta.

In the afternoon, using simple science concepts, create a self-painting robot powered by vibrations! Learn how a motor works and how to connect supplied battery holder correctly. Use a glue gun and craft materials to personalise robots and add unique components. Next, using a common set of materials, children will work in teams to create an attacking system (to hit some targets) as well as a defensive shield. They will then compete by deploying their systems against one another, earning points. Learn about teamwork, listen with respect and adjusting ideas on-the-fly.
